ANACORTES SENIOR COLLEGE
BOARD OF DIRECTORS MEETING
SEPTEMBER 5, 2007


In Attendance: Doug Everhart, Duane Clark, Dr. Jim Ford, Beth Prins, Gary Robinson, Kris Lytton, Dick Millison, Lea DeVere, Michael Newbrough, Chris Borgen, Peg Wenke.
  
A. MEETING: The meeting was called to order by President Doug at 3:35 PM.
 
B. MINUTES:  The minutes from the August 8th Officers Meeting were approved with the following changes: Lea will develop the format for a newsletter while others will write the articles.
 
C. FINANCE REPORT:  Kris presented detailed handout covering 6/13/07 thru 9/24/07. She noted a need to discuss the rent fees with Chris Borgen soon. Kris shared that donation monies are being used to purchase two wireless microphones that will be installed in two classrooms for use with hard of hearing students. Noted: Thank you letters for future donations will fall under the Secretary’s responsibility.   
   
D. CURRICULUM REPORT:  Beth reported---the Spanish Class is full. The current class covers the next 3 semesters, so Beth presented possible alternative solutions to those on waiting list. Beth discussed the Open House on September 12th in the Commons of the Middle School. Beth & Kris are working out details for a Community Outreach program with local high school students. Emphasis: 2 hr blocks of volunteer time creates Community Outreach credits for students’ resumes—as well as Inter-generational experiences.  
   
OLD BUSINESS:
 
A. Duane presented the Conflict of Interest Policy, prepared by Lea with the explanation that it’s to be included with the 501(c)3 application. After a discussion of the details, Dr. Ford moved to accept the Conflict of Interest Policy, Beth seconded. The Board unanimously voted to accept.
  
B. Chris Borgen assured the board that classrooms would be available for future expansion of the college.
  
C. A discussion of D and O insurance for the Board of Directors may be needed.
   
NEW BUSINESS:  
 
A.   Kris Lytton led a discussion of committee assignments for board members. The following committees were set up:

1.     Lectures & Field Trips:
  
       Dr. Ford, w/ Gary Robinson & Peg Wenke
   
2.     Marketing and Public Relations:
  
         Lea DeVere, Doug Everhart, and Dick Millison
   
         Community Outreach Helper:  Michael Newbrough

 4. Newsletter:  Write articles, develop newsletter, mailing

 5. Operations: Beth Prins and Kris Lytton
  
 6. Website: Kirk Kennedy

B.    Dr Ford discussed research he has done on a possible field trip to the Walla Walla College Campus for a Wine-tasting class. It was suggested that Dr. Ford and the committee for field trips and lectures present information on this trip at the Open House on the 12th to gauge the immediate interest in such a plan.
